National Pi Day – How will you celebrate?

image

Did you hear? This Saturday, March 14th is National Pi Day, an annual celebration of the mathematical symbol for pi, which equals 3.14159…..(See how many total digits of pi have been calculated here).

This upcoming Saturday (3/14/15) is a very special National Pi Day because it will offer an extremely rare phenomenon. On 3/14/15 at 9:26 AM and PM with exactly 53 seconds, these 10 digits of pi will be represented: 3.141592653.

That’s pretty cool, and it definitely calls for celebration. Here are some ideas to celebrate this unique phenomenon:

Pie on Pi Day

What could be better than joining together with friends and family and eating pie on Pi Day? Apple pie, Pumpkin Pie, Strawberry-Rhubarb, maybe even Pizza Pie. Whatever kind of pie you choose, don’t forget to take a moment and talk about why the other pi deserves celebration. (Unsure what pi is all about? Learn more here)

Send Someone a Pi Day e-Card

Teach your Dog Math

Pets can be trained to complete incredible tasks, and math may be no different. Check out Maggie the Math Dog to see this idea in action. Can you train your pet to do math in honor of Pi Day?

How will you celebrate?
These are just a few ideas to help you celebrate Pi Day, but there are plenty more ways to celebrate pi. Let us know how you plan to celebrate on Facebook.

Happy Pi Day!

Guess what time it is?! Time to enroll in 4-H!

It's RE-ENROLLMENT time!

It is that time again!  Here's the most important dates and info to remember:

Horse/Livestock youth - enroll BEFORE you begin working with your project.
All others must be enrolled before June 15th.

Youth must be enrolled if they want to participate in contests or clubs of any kind. This includes bringing Fab Friday projects to the Fair, showing horses/livestock, participating in demonstrations/talent contests, or being in a 4-H club during the school year or summer. The great thing is that enrollment is ALL ONLINE now!

You can even pay your $5 ONLINE (with a small fee HERE) or there are several "offline" options as well - all of the options and info you need to know can be found HERE. All you need to get started is the email you enrolled with last year, go to ut.4honline.com, and log in! If you don't know the email/password you signed up with, call us and we'll walk you through it.

A NOTE TO LIVESTOCK FAMILIES: If you're re-enrolling in a livestock project, there will be no forms available at tagging days - please re-enroll BEFORE tagging dates; the Southern Utah Junior Livestock Show requires youth to be 4-H or FFA members to participate in the Stock Show. 4-H enrollment offers accident protection while working with your livestock project which is why we want you to sign up BEFORE weigh-ins. Ultimately, if you don't enroll you don't show.

Please call the 4-H office (435-893-0470) if you have questions.

We're gonna have a GOAT show!

Great news!

This year Sevier County 4-H and FFA members will have the option to show a meat goat at the Southern Utah Junior Livestock Show August 4-7, 2015 at the Sevier County Fair.

In order to show a goat in 4-H, youth must have been at least 8 years old and in 3rd grade as of October 2014 and be enrolled in 4-H, including paying the $5 enrollment fee.  Please enroll PRIOR to the tagging date (May 9th).

There will also be a $5 per animal tagging fee at the tagging day.  Please be prepared to pay with cash or check made out to SUJLS for the tagging fee.

More information will be coming soon about the goat show and we'll pass it along when we get it. Stay tuned!
