What is Maker Camp?

It is a FREE summer camp for building, tinkering, and exploring where you can participate in-person (at the Sevier County 4-H office in Richfield) or online through Google+. To learn more about what we will be doing this summer, check out this list of Maker projects.

How do I participate?

In-person:
If you choose to participate in person, you can join us each week at the 4-H Extension site (
250 N. Main, Richfield, UT 84701). From the week of July 7th to the week of August 15th, we will be working on projects every Tuesday from 10am to 3pm. If you can attend the whole day from 10am to 3pm, great; please bring your own lunch. If you cannot attend for the whole time, come and leave as you are available. We will be there on Tuesday's from 10am to 3pm (EXCEPT for the week of the fair).

If you choose to come to the Extension office to participate, we will have materials waiting for you to create your Maker projects. If you cannot attend every single week, no worries. We welcome you to participate for one day or for as many meetings as you can attend.

Online:
If you choose to participate at home, you will need to create a Google+ profile and follow MAKE to attend Maker Camp. If you’re under 13, you can attend Maker Camp on Google+ with your parent, using his or her Google+ profile. Maker Camp will be available every day from July 7th to August 15th.

As for materials, many of the materials you need for the projects are likely already available in your home. However, any materials you need to buy ahead of time are inexpensive and easily attainable at grocery, hardware, or electronics stores. If you choose this option, please upload pictures to the MAKE page, Maker Camp community page, and/or upload to instagram #sevier4hutah.

What about Fair week?
During fair week, we will be hosting maker camp at the county fair, so if you would like to participate that week, please join us at our 4-H booth on Thursday, August 7th from 12pm to 4pm to continue Maker Camp. After that week, we will continue to meet at the 4-H Extension office location Tuesday's from 10am to 3pm.

How do I sign up for Google+?
If you choose to participate in Maker Camp in-person, you do not have to join Google+. We have a Google+ account under the name SevierUT FourH. Feel free to add us to your circles and follow us. Since we already have a Google+ account, if you show up in person, we can participate together using our Google+ account.

If you choose to participate online, you can create a Google+ account by following these directions. After you've created one, simply add MAKE to your circles and join the Maker Camp community to get started. During the weeks of Maker Camp, they will post everything you need to know to participate.

Do I need to be enrolled in 4-H to participate?
Yes. If you are not yet enrolled, please go to seviercounty4-h.org to enroll. If you are already enrolled, you are ready to start creating at Maker Camp.

Remember, please fill out this form to let us know if you will be participating.

See you at Maker Camp!

Good Luck Horse 4-Hers!

Horse show season has arrived!

The Sevier County 4-H Staff want to wish all the 4-Hers in the Horse Project best of luck in this upcoming summer show season!  Our horse program has grown by leaps and bounds this year and we are excited to see each of our new and returning members succeed and improve in the show pen.

Here are the horse show dates for this year:
Friday, June 13th
Thursday, June 26th
Saturday, July 12th
Thursday, July 31st
Monday, August 4th

Youth will earn points at each show and those with the highest points will earn a spot on our State Horse Show delegation.  The Utah State 4-H Horse Show will be held at the Golden Spike Arena in Ogden, Utah September 25-27, 2014. Youth will also be working toward year end awards here at home.

All youth must be enrolled in 4-H prior to June 13th to participate.  Be safe, best of luck, and have fun!

County Contests this week!

It's contest time!  Thursday, June 12th,
Youth Center, Richfield - come one, come all!

There are still a few spots left in the morning for youth who would like to participate in the following contests: Favorite Foods, Demonstrations, Talent, and Impromptu Speech. The time slots for the Snow Cone Contest are all full at this point.

By participating in County Contests, 4-H youth have an opportunity to showcase the skills they have learned in their 4-H club work.  Skills like public speaking and self confidence are just a tiny bit of what the youth of all ages gain by participating.

The contests are open to youth grades 3-12 and this year our teen council have volunteered to be the judges.  Participants will receive a ribbon and a score sheet/feedback for each contest they participate in. County Contests also qualify high school youth for State Contests that will be held at USU in Logan July 14-16.

Interested in Robotics?

We dusted off the robotics kits that have been tucked away in our closet and planned a couple days to play with them and guess what?!  The spots filled up super fast!  So, we're thinking maybe there are a few more people out there that would be interested and we want your input on where to go from here.

We are exploring the ideas of opening up this offering year round so we're trying to see who and how many youth/adults would be interested in participating.  If you're interested, please click HERE to fill out a short survey and get on the list.  Thanks!

Still room in 4-H clubs this summer!

We had a great turnout for our Summer 4-H Sign-ups the other day.  If you missed it, that's okay!  There's still room in several groups.  Here's the details:

4-H Super Summer 4-H Day Camp:  $45 This will be Barbie's crafting boot camp of the summer - there will be some Dumpster Diva mixed in, the ladies from Knit N Craft are coming, and it will no doubt be a fun party you won't want to miss!  Click HERE to sign up.

4-H Junior Teen Retreat:  FREE  This will be an intro to the Junior Teen Council program.  Teens will be doing some basic training, fun games like human foosball and then build and grill your own burgers.  We need a headcount on how many to plan for for lunch so click HERE to sign up.

4-H Beginning Tennis: $4 This class will be taught by some of our 4-H Teens on July 21-23 and July 28-30; you'll need to bring your own tennis racket and 3-4 tennis balls.  Call Nan at 435-201-7803 to sign up.

Last Chance!

The end is near! Final reminder!

All youth that want to exhibit at the Sevier County Fair in August and want to participate in 4-H clubs and contests this summer need to be enrolled by Friday, June 13th.

There were several families that paid their fees at the livestock weigh-ins but still haven't gone online and clicked through to re-enroll.

If you were in 4-H last year, it really is so simple - you can even just call Cori and she'll walk you through it over the phone.

Take care of it today or your kid will miss out on exhibiting - that's not a conversation I want to have with any parent or child in the horse arena, at the scales, or in the exhibit hall.

Please, please, please re-enroll!
